BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, Wash.– ProGyr™ has created the “Golf Globe Challenge” for the iPhone/iPod Touch, resulting in a new version of this popular pastime. The portable game provides an enjoyable contest for “avid armchair golfers” seeking stress release or simply enjoyment off the golf course, as players strive to rotate the globe and float the ball until it rests successfully on the tee. The new Golf Globe Challenge is available in the iTunes store.

“ProGyr is excited to be working with Apple’s powerful mobile devices and the sensory interfaces that are proliferating as a result,” says Pete Handel, president of ProGyr. “We are confident that Golf Globe players will enjoy the new level of challenge that this iTunes application brings to the game.”

Designed by physicist B.C. Rasco, Ph.D., the Golf Globe Challenge motion rivals that found in the well-liked iPhone physics-based gaming applications. Starting with remarkable, realistic graphics, the globe responds to tilts and gyrations of hand motions. Following those movements, the golf ball moves back and forth, over and around, as if in water or through varied depths of space. More progressive levels of play present an enjoyable and challenging 3D accomplishment.

The Water Globe Golf Ball game first was introduced in its current form in 1993, although similar games have been around for over a century. The original Golf Globe game magnified any logo on the ball through the curvature of the glass and water inside the globe. The new Golf Globe Challenge now also includes a sponsor’s logo in the interior of the game. When a player sets the Golf Globe aside, the logo or icon appears on the phone’s home page as well. Interested sponsors are invited to contact ProGyr.

ProGyr bases its products on the concept of the Sound of Your Motion. Using micro electrical mechanical systems (MEMS)-based accelerometers and gyroscopes to capture movement of golfers or dancers, ProGyr instruments sonify and provide real-time biofeedback that makes natural sense to athletes.
