Copenhagen’s retro soul popsters The Asteroids Galaxy Tour are back with a new single ‘The Golden Age’ released through Small Giants on 7th September 2009. A psychedelic blend of retro funky beats, brass band mayhem and an insatiable sing-a-long chorus, ‘The Golden Age’ will put the Asteroids at the forefront of the summer soundscape of 2009.
Since fronting the Apple iPod Touch advert worldwide with ‘Around The Bend’ and having their tracks featured on US hit shows Gossip Girl and CSI Miami, the band have gone from strength to cosmic strength since being discovered supporting Amy Winehouse by David Enthoven and Tim Clark (T-Rex, Roxy Music and Robbie Williams). And with support from the likes of Jo Whiley, Sara Cox, Jonathan Ross, Dermot O’Leary and an appearance on Never Mind The Buzzcocks, plus 3 million Myspace hits and 220,000 downloads they have already began to make their decent onto UK shores.
The Asteroids are the latest exciting installment in the new wave of hip Scandinavian pop hitting the UK (think Robyn, Royksopp, A Camp), formed just over a year ago they are heading for fame faster than the speed of light. Sitting at core of the band is Lars Iversen and Mette Lindberg Pederson who together have fermented their love of soul and kaleidoscopic pop, and spectacularly brought it to life through Mette’s utterly unique and very cool vocal – described by The Guardian as the Asteroids ‘secret weapon’.
Live, the band grow to a six-piece. Including a fully fledged horn section of trumpet and sax players, clavinet sounds, a drummer and a guitarist taking audiences on a gloriously woozy funkadelic musical trip. This summer the band tour extensively around Europe and joined the fabulous Katy Perry on tour which hits the UK next month. Fans were also catch them on the festival circuit with appearances at Secret Garden and Latitude.
Finally, about that name...“I stole it from Miloud, our Moroccan trumpet player, who runs a hippie jewelery shop when he’s not rehearsing with us”, laughs Lars. I like it because it sounds like the title of a film or a book, rather than a band name. It’s asking you to step in to a story and join us on a journey - a trip in our galaxy”.
‘The Golden Age’ will be released on 7th September 2009, followed by the album ‘Fruit’ on 21st September.
