When Jose's story was presented to us, all the members of the project selection committee, felt compelled to help in any way we could...Jose's story came to us via a web search and thru the VA here in Tampa. Debbie Maynard and myself, Mark Adkins met last week with Jose's family to pick out paint colors for the inside and plants for the yard. Jose's Mom, Nelida Bagley openly greeted us and introduced us to Jose' son, daughters and many friends all there to help out. The commitment Nellie and the family has towards Jose is wonderful to witness. Nellie also commented on the struggle just to maintain the day to day upkeep of the home. She spends most of her week in or traveling to various medical facilities where Jose receives treatment and therapy for his injuries that occurred during an ambush while he was serving in Iraq.
Everyone was excited to pick out the new colors for their rooms. Nelida or "Nellie" was please we would repair and repaint her living room, Jose bedroom and the kids’ room. We have had an outpouring of support from our volunteer base to be part of this event on August 22nd.
