Americans are approached daily with a barrage of fundraising appeals, many in the form of written letters, fliers and brochures, which, in many cases, get promptly discarded, even without being opened. The public has become weary of this approach. Yet organizations spend a great deal of time and money doing the same old thing, over and over.
Why not try something new?
Video is a medium that is just beginning to come into its own as a marketing tool, and this tool can easily be directed toward fundraising.
One idea: Record your organization's president talking on camera, one-on-one to prospective donors, explaining the urgency of a current fund-raising drive, and explaining in detail how the donations will be used.
Then take that video and:
1. Place it on your website and make it readily available for playing to anyone who comes browsing on your site, or
2. Place the video on a separate webpage or even on YouTube, and send an email with a link to the video to everyone on your donor list or to those on other lists you may have. When they open the email they will be able to simply click on the link that will take them to the video presentation, or
3. Include the video on DVD, to mail or give out to special prospects.
These are just a few options. The point is, in each case, the donor will have the experience of interacting with a live person, conveying passion and feeling and a directness not available in print.
Of course, there are other ways to utilize video effectively for your organization, such as a longer, beautifully crafted video about the whole history and scope of your organization, which can be used also in various ways to draw supporters, financially and otherwise.
Well-done, well-utilized video can help to promote your organization's goals and vision, and to get those goals and vision out to your members and to the general public.
