The Lake Erie Seaway Trail Center has installed an information kiosk about the Seaway Trail on the grounds of its Route 5 property to provide 24/7 availability of tourism information.
The three-sided structure is one of 50 similar community-based kiosks that include a map of the 518-mile Seaway Trail, a regional map, a listing of local attractions and a brochure rack with localized information. Production of the kiosks was funded by the Federal Highway Administration’
Local sponsors of the project include Girl Scout Troop 677, Benderson Development, the Seaway Trail Corporation, and the Hamburg Buildings & Grounds Dept.
"The Seaway Trail information kiosk system is designed to help travelers drive their way along the byway and discover the unique places and experiences along the Trail," Teresa Mitchell, Seaway Trail president and CEO, said. The objective of the informational kiosks is “to not only provide information but encourage travelers to pause in our communities and spend their dollars locally," Mitchell said.
The network of informational kiosks joins more than 100 multi-themed Seaway Trail storyteller interpretive panels focusing on significant sites relating to architecture, agriculture, maritime and military history, nature, shipwrecks and lighthouses on the Seaway Trail, which have been deployed along the Trail in recent years.
The Lake Erie Seaway Trail Center is a visitor’s center operated by local residents to provide service to travelers and the local community.
