The average soccer fan spends an average of 800 hours a year following their team. From watching games, traveling to games, reading press and internet articles and simply chatting about the game with their mates, the dedicated fan spends 15 hours every week, and quite a bit of money, obsessing about the sport.
Football-gifts.eu have just relaunched their website and plan to target as many of these dedicated fans as possible. Supplying officially licensed football gifts, souvenirs and memorbilia to a worldwide customer base, the site has been successfully operating for 5 years as a hobby for it's owner, James Rooney. Now, however, with ever increasing sales the decision was taken to go full time and rebuild the online store to a more user friendly, database driven model. Managing Director James Rooney "The original site was a static website which worked fine, but was cumbersome to update, and from the customers viewpoint was not very intuitive. This worked okay for us as a part time operation, but adding new products and keeping track of orders was very labour intensive, and sometimes the site might not be updated for weeks. The new site allows us to respond to customers quicker and more efficiently, as well as keeping product info up to date. Customers have also got a lot more options for searching and finding their way around the site"
Dedicated fans spend money as well as time on their team and Rooney has seen sales steadily increase over the last few years without any major marketing campaign. "It's been a steady, gradual process up to now, without any major input from our end, but we feel the time is right to give it a bigger push. We try to keep prices as low as we can, and of course many of our items are personalised items that can't be bought elsewhere"
The store features merchandise from all the top English and Scottish teams as well as many of the big European names. Products include everything from kid's toys, executive gifts and personalised greeting cards. As well as the store, football-gifts.eu features a database of football related articles and trivia, which they are planning to expand considerably in the coming months. Histories of the game itself as well as all the major competitions are coupled with essays and opinions by dedicated fans from all corners of the globe. Contributers and customers are drawn mainly from The UK, Ireland and Scandinavia, with an ever increasing number coming from Australia and The US.
