Filmmaker James Anthony Cotton responds to the questions is the Irish priest orphanage abuse scandal a direct motive for his film "The Confessional"
due out later this year. "While we knew that such abuses happen more often than is portrayed in mainstream media, we weren't aware of the current scandal at the time of filming" Cotton said in a recent interview. "The Confessional is about such abuse and where it might lead, but the characters and story are purely fictional, the facts may seem to point to such inside knowledge but we didn't have that information at the time of filming." The film portrays the story of a young man in a Catholic orphanage that is abused and the psychological effects that it created on him and his resulting mental disorder as an adult. First review screeners of the film have been quoted as saying "a must see", "dark, disturbing " and "entrancing".
