Aberdeen is the place to go if you like stories. Every year they host the Gadiefest, an extravaganza of story telling, drama, music and arts and crafts.
The Grampian Association of Storytellers and Archaeolink Prehistory Park will present this years from Friday 4th September to Sunday 6th September 2009 celebrating the heritage of the North East of Scotland. The "GAS" was originated eight years ago by three locals, Grace Banks, Maggie Fraser and Jackie Ross. Since then, GAS has grown to provide a stage for new storytellers, workshops for the new and the more experienced teller, ballad classes, family events, mentoring and a supportive network of like-minded folk.
The festival includes storytelling sessions, family storytelling workshops, poetry from local groups, performance storytelling sessions and arts and crafts displays. If you would like to take part then on the Saturday evening, there will be an open session of stories, songs, ballads and music to which everyone is invited to listen or perform.
The Gadiefest starts on Friday at 7pm with an evening of stories from this years guest storyteller Colin McAllister. Tickets will be £5 at the door and the event will be held at the Queens Cross Church Lounge, Albyn Place, Aberdeen.
The festival then moves location to the Archaeolink Prehistory Park, Oyne who will host the remainder of the festival. Archaeolink is a multi award winning living history park and visitor attraction which has featured storytelling amongst its activities since it opened in 1997.
