PORTLAND, OR — A new joint venture affecting the growth of nonprofits worldwide has formed between Roots and Wings International (RWI) and Jolkona Foundation. The uniqueness of the partnership is that both organizations are emerging nonprofits benefiting international recipients. RWI's focus is Guatemala, while Jolkona spotlights various international beneficiaries. “RWI takes an effective approach in educating rural Guatemalan children and that makes them an exciting partner for us... Educating today's children is one of the best ways to ensure a brighter future of the world,” according to Adnan Mahmud, Co-Founder and CEO of Jolkona Foundation.

RWI's focus is to bring Guatemalan youth into the 21st century through the powerful impact that education makes. The Jolkona Foundation link, http://jolkona.org/projects/45, features two RWI programs “Computer Literacy for Kids” and “Beyond School” through which donors may sponsor a Guatemalan RWI student endeavoring to finish elementary school. “Our focus is promoting university-level education. But because 60% of the Guatemalan population does not graduate elementary school, we realized we had to work with children from primary school on up,” states Erik Swanson, RWI's President.

Jolkona Foundation connects charitable givers to nonprofit organizations, such as newly-partnered RWI. The Jolkona Foundation, based in Washington, is poised to examine accountability for each donation, no matter how big or small, made through their organization. “We were interested in partnering with Roots and Wings International because of their willingness to show impact for every donation that they receive,” states Mahmud. The partnership brings added exposure and authority to both organizations.

RWI was created in 2004 in an effort to improve the lives of Guatemala's indigenous population through education, training and technology. Earning approximately $2 per day growing coffee beans, most indigenous Guatemalans live in extreme poverty. RWI recognizes the potential that education brings, and seeks to deliver valued educational tools.
