The Astoria-Warrenton Chamber of Commerce is currently planning a celebration for the 25th anniversary of The Goonies on June 4-7, 2010. The Goonies was filmed around and took place in Astoria, Oregon and still, almost 25 years later, brings fans of the film to the town to explore the sites. To kickoff the planning for the event, the Chamber is holding an art contest to find the art that will be used to promote the event with posters, advertisements, etc.
This celebration promises to be a great follow up to our 20th anniversary event in 2005 which included cast appearances by Jeff “Chunk” Cohen, Sean “Mikey” Astin and Curt “Mr. Perkins” Hanson, bus tours, movie showings and so much more. More details about the event will be announced this fall, along with the winners of this contest.
“We’ve been contacted by numerous fans wanting to send us their art to use for the event since announcing our plans to host the 25th anniversary event, so this call for art seemed a natural addition to the event. We look forward to seeing the artistic talents of the fans from near and far and anticipate a tough decision in awarding the prizes this fall. We will display many of the entries next year during the event for everyone to enjoy.”
Art entries will be accepted through Wednesday, September 9, 2009. The entries will be judged by a volunteer committee with a background in art or marketing, and of course, a love for The Goonies. Prizes will be awarded to the top three selections – 1st: $500, 2nd: $250, 3rd: $150, with the first place art being used as the official event poster, but each of the top 3 designs may be used in marketing efforts for the event. Art may be used in color or black & white applications, in print, on the internet or on T-shirts and other merchandise. Any entry submitted to the contest may be used by the Chamber as a part of the Goonies 25th Anniversary.
