Members of Moorfields Contact Lens Department gathered to watch two presentations, one by UK contact lens material manufacturer, Contamac, in which Martyn Lewis from Contamac, talked about the benefits of Contamac’s Definitive™ SiH material, followed by Lynn White’s presentation.
Keratoconus patients often believe they have little choice but to wear rigid contact lenses, which can be uncomfortable, to provide them with functional vision and manage normal day-to-day activities. With the advent of soft keratoconus contact lenses they now have a more comfortable option. Soft contact lenses are available for Keratoconus sufferers and, using the correct fitting procedures, can provide up to 18 hours of comfortable wear as well as giving comparable vision to RGP lenses. Faced with long working hours, patients often wear their rigid lenses much longer than recommended, which can compromise ocular health, in some cases result in corneal scarring and may increase the risk of corneal grafts.
Martyn Lewis started the evening by talking about the advanced silicone hydrogel contact lens material, Definitive™, and the excellent ocular health benefits the high oxygen permeability provides to any patient. Lynn then gave a clinical presentation about KeraSoft®3 and KeraSoft® IC contact lenses, demonstrating the fitting techniques and the life-changing experiences KeraSoft® has brought to many patients.
