Hollywood, CA, July 31, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Mark Pirro, the filmmaker who in 1981 was coined by an L.A. Times article as the ‘poor people’s filmmaker,” is premiering his newest comedy, The God Complex, Saturday, August 29th, 2009, 7pm at Raleigh Studios in Hollywood. The movie follows God, who is short, bald, fat and just like his Biblical counterpart, is angry, insecure, homicidal, sadistic and vengeful…but naturally, he loves you.
Pirro’s first feature film, A Polish Vampire in Burbank, produced in 1983 on a budget of $2500, was featured on Hard Copy, Entertainment Tonight, Fox News and CNBC, and has gone on to gross millions on the home video market and on USA Network. In over 25 years, Pirro has produced eight films, all on ultra low budgets, including The God Complex, produced for less than $1,000. At 53, Pirro is an inspiration to filmmakers everywhere. He started making his films long before digital technology, usually with his own pocket change, and in some cases using the old Super 8 film format. Pirro manages to keep costs down by utilizing versatile sets that can be re-used again and again, his own home studio, and working with a slew of devotees who donate their talents for the common goal. Amongst his ensemble is an Emmy award winning FX artist (who has been a member of the Pirromount team since 1978) as well as a 2nd unit team in San Francisco (who has worked with Pirro since 2003), all who do it for the love of the project rather than a paycheck. For Pirro, the passion has always been in the production, not necessarily for financial gain.
