What You Need to Know About an Egg Donation Program

Having egg donation treatment requires careful planning between the cycles of the egg donor and the egg donation recipient.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Aug 02, 2009 -
Having egg donation treatment requires careful planning between the cycles of the egg donor and the egg donation recipient.  Once both parties are ready to participate on the egg donation program, the fertility specialist starts planning.

Egg donors - after the psychological and medical screening - avail themselves for the egg donation process on the egg donation program.  This mean they will be given the pill to coincide their cycle with the recipient of donor eggs.  Further involvement for the egg donor is that she will come in for 2 or 3 scans over a 2 week period, starting on day 2, then day 10 and sometimes day 12 whilst on egg donation medication.  These scans are to get a good indication as to how the follicles are developing.  Eggs normally develope at the end of a follicle, so the number of follicles provides some insight into expected eggs.  On the day the egg donor ovulates, she comes in for the egg retrieval.  The eggs are retrieved vaginally and donated to the egg donation recipient.  On this day she gets her egg donation remuneration, her donation.  That is the end of the role for the egg donor.

The egg donation program for recipient of donor eggs entails her screening to ensure she is psychologically and medically fit to receive a donor egg pregnancy.  Once all is clear, she comes in for scans over the same period as her egg donor and also takes medication - to get her lining ready.  Normally the lining needs to be at least 8mm to enable the embryo to implant him/ herself.  Egg donation recipients come in on day 2, day 10 and also sometimes day 12 for a further scan to confirm that the uterus is ready.  Five (sometimes six) days following egg retrieval, the embryos are transferred into the egg donation recipient - after they have been grown in a special medium from mature egg to blastocyste.

The egg donation program is concluded when the egg donation recipient takes a pregnancy test 12 days after embryo transfer.  More details on egg donation program and egg donation South Africa are available with baby2mom Egg Donation and Surrogacy Program - www.baby2mom.co.za
