I've been unemployed for almost two years now. Why? The same reasons as everyone else of course.
Having worked for major banks and minor corporations over the last 20 years I've learned a lot. Corporate America seems to want only one type of worker in it's work places; 20 years old, white, single, not-pregnant and preferably male.
Unfortunately there may not be enough of those to go around with America's work force getting older by the day. There may indeed me more of us over 20 than below it.
Diversity Programs aside, we can't all be white or male, and from what I've observed; some of us actually get pregnant! Go figure.
This recession has been called many things. The one that got me was "Man-Session"
Blacks and other minority males have been hit most intensely and predictably. Last hired-first fired has always applied and it has always applied harshest to men of color.
So having lived through all this I could just sit here and watch my resume's get no response and my unemployment run out like everyone else or I could do something about it.
That brings me to Virtually Assisting You.
Virtually Assisting You is my new online business offering Receptionist and Secretarial Services over the internet.
By taking my twenty years of experience as an Executive Assistant and Clerical Aide and offering them over the net; I hope to garner clients and help them by answering their phones via Skype and typing their business correspondence for them deposited to my secure lock box.
When I get up in the morning I'm ready to work. Call me "old school" but there is just too much Wii, texting and sexting going on in today's work place for me. But hey, that's kids for ya!
