BRS Aerospace, a South Saint Paul MN-based manufacturer of whole-aircraft emergency parachute systems, military cargo and personnel parachutes, and reflective safety products, has recently been awarded 2 new contracts by the U.S. Army to manufacture more than 3,500 "High and Low Velocity" cargo parachutes over a 2-year period. In addition, the Army increased a previous contract quantity awarded BRS earlier this year by more than 50%. Work for these new contracts will be divided between the company's North Carolina and Minnesota facilities, and more than 100 new employees will be hired to fulfill these contracts. Combined, these new contracts are valued at more than $17 million to BRS Aerospace over the period of the initial contracts.
The North Carolina manufacturing facility, BRS Defense, is located in Pinebluff (Moore County). "Hiring more employees in Pinebluff will not be a problem as there are a substantial number of experienced former textile workers located in the area", said Norman Girdwood, BRS Defense's General Manager. "These types of military contracts are a great opportunity for BRS as well as the surrounding Pinebluff community since they will create new, and hopefully long-term, jobs."
Added Gary Moore, BRS Aerospace's Vice President for Sales & Marketing, "No doubt these contracts will lead to even bigger opportunities within the Defense world where our almost 30 years of experience making quality commercial parachute systems can shine in new ways."
