The Swedish golf-clothing brand, Abacus, will once again dress the Europe’s Solheim Cup team following its great success in 2007. The 2009 Solheim Cup collection is now ready and it comprises seven different outfits, one for every day of the competition in Chicago from August 21-23, 2009.
The collection is now ready for The European Solheim Cup Team. It comprises seven different outfits, one for every day of the golfing week in Chicago, which culminates with the main competition from August 21-23, 2009.
This is the second Solheim in a row that Swedish company, Abacus, is the Official Clothing Supplier for The Solheim Cup, one of the world’s largest women’s sporting events.
“We are ready to win!” declared 2009 European Captain Alison Nicholas as she reflected on the matches in 2007, adding, “We Europeans have still yet to win The Solheim Cup away from home.
“Now that the competition will be taking place at Rich Harvest Farms in the USA, it’s more important than ever that I can create an environment that makes it possible for the players to perform their very best.”
The collection is attractive, fashion-based, and creates a distinctive team feeling. Moreover, the experience at The 2007 Solheim Cup in Tylösand made it clear that the clothes need to work in all possible weather conditions and that’s why the prizewinning Pitch Rainwear will again be included in this year’s collection.
Strong colors, lively patterns
The outfits have a different color for every day of the week; strong colors like lipstick, apple green, and lilac, mixed with white. Patterns such as dots and stripes lend a lively and sporty feel to the clean and fresh designs.
“In addition, we have a secret weapon for Sunday’s single matches on the final day,” said Chris Mattsson, head designer for Abacus. “Both the public and the American players will find it hard to keep their eyes on the ball!” “I’ve played and won in the Sunday colors before, so I’m hoping it will bring us luck here as well,” explained Alison Nicholas.
An important channel to the market
Sponsoring the European team is important for Abacus. “This Solheim Cup means we get exposure to consumers on all markets,” says Abacus’ Managing Director, Sven-Olof Karlsson. “Particularly the American market which is new territory for us.”
During 2009, Abacus is also the Official Clothing Supplier to The European Team in the PING Junior Solheim Cup, as well as all those employed by the Ladies European Tour. For more information, visit http://www.abacus-
