Aeonian Brick Homes builds the first of many LEED Platinum hurricane, flood and termite proof houses

July 31, 2009 - PRLog -- Aeonian Brick Homes is pleased to announce that construction will begin on a one acre lot in Summerville, South Carolina in late August, 2009. This will be the brick manufacturer’s first home built using its own waterproof, interlocking brick.

The ribbon cutting and groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for August 3, 2009, starting at 10:00AM, and all are invited, (download PDF invitation).

The company’s waterproof bricks will be sold to homebuilders and contractors throughout the United States with a focus on hurricane and tornado prone areas.

Don goes on to say, “The energy footprint required to produce the Aeonian Brick is virtually
zero. Traditionally, bricks are fired at thousands of degrees for one to two weeks, consuming huge amounts of energy. Our brick is steamed-cured for three days, then placed on racks to continue curing for an additional three weeks, no huge expenditure of oil, gas or coal is required.”

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is tasked with making green buildings available to everyone within a generation. LEED for Homes is a rating system put in place by the USGBC to promote the design and construction of high-performance green homes.

Aeonian Brick Homes is working closely with Home Energy Group, which is a green building and energy consulting company serving the Low Country area around Charleston, South Carolina. They are a certified Home Energy Rater and LEED for Homes Provider.
