Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania –
Abbott Research Group, Inc. (www.abbottresearchgroup.com)
announced that Health Canada issued Abbott Research a medical device license for its WaterWorks Therapeutic Vaginal Cleansing Device on April 15, 2009. The FDA had previously issued a Class II device 510(k) pre-market clearance on July 10, 2008. Abbott Research received its ISO 13485 Certification on November 13, 2007.
The device is used for treating vaginal odor without adversely affecting the vaginal eco-system. Clinical studies have shown that women reported significant reduction of vaginal odor after using WaterWorks with tap water for Four (4) weeks without any alteration of vaginal flora and a positive effect after the first few days of use. The WaterWorks vaginal cleansing system (www.waterworkshealth.com)
was determined to be superior to over-the-counter devices, in reducing/eliminating vaginal odor. The WaterWorks cleansing system neutralizes odor and provides safe, effective feminine cleansing without the use of harsh deodorants or chemicals. WaterWorks uses tap water, together with a comfortable medical-grade stainless steel nozzle. The stainless steel surface, when in contact with flowing water and the vaginal tissue produces a natural deodorizing and cleansing reaction. The highly polished, sanitary, medical-grade stainless steel finish allows bacteria to be easily washed away. The unique patented design channels water in a safe, downward direction with gentle pressure for complete cleansing safely and effectively, while avoiding flow of fluids into areas that could trigger infection.
The WaterWorks was in development for ten years and is the only FDA cleared product on the market to reduce or eliminate vaginal odor having been clinically tested for over six years. Abbott Research holds four (4) US patents on the device (US 6,190,365, US 6,589,216, US 7,270,653, US 7,276,056) and three international patents (Europe 1483001, Canada 2,477,251 and Australia 2003215378).
