ourairports.mobi is a new version of the online directory optimized for small screens and low bandwidth. The mobile site provides both passengers and pilots with access to information about over 40,000 world airports, updated every few minutes.
According to OurAirports founder David Megginson, the site's goal is to bring all the information different groups need together in one place. "Some aviation sites are designed for general aviation pilots, focussing on only one country's airports. Others are designed for airline travellers, focussing on only a few hundred of the world's largest airports. OurAirports serves both groups, covering everything from busy hubs to little grass airstrips, letting visitors share their experiences and even update and add airports."
Like Wikipedia, OurAirports is community edited. Members from around the world add and update airport information, and comment on their travelling experiences for the benefit of other visitors.
Features:
• the ability to search for the closest airports to any city or address, or to look up airports by code
• pilot and passenger comments about airports
• live aviation weather reports and forecasts for airports around the world, updated every few minutes
• filters to show only airports with scheduled airline service, or only seaplane bases
• lists of the closest alternates to every airport
