With a mixture of established fine artists and stars of the future there will be over 40 lots to bid on with the main auction starting at 9pm.  50% of the profit generated will be donated to the Bristol Festival 2009 Art Fund. Artists involved include Hannah Davies, Deenagh Miller, Greg Trucker, Andrew Hood, Cheba and Acer.

This event is part of the BFCG’s wider commitment to art development in the City which includes a recent art competition with over 2000 pupils from local schools invited to take part. The competition asked for pupils to draw or paint a picture that represents what Bristol means to them.  The winners and runner-ups will be announced on September 14th, a week before Bristol Festival 2009 and will have their art exhibited at the festival plus two adult tickets for the parents.  Children under twelve are free at the event, when accompanied by an adult.

Even the latest Bristol Festival 2009 poster is designed by brilliant local artist Andy Council featuring Bristol music scene venues. (Poster attached) A true snapshot of Bristol’s independent musical scene, limited edition screen prints will soon be available from www.thebristolfestival.org.

All in all, thanks to the hard work from everyone involved, it looks like the Bristol Festival 2009 is shaping up to be a beauty!

Notes to editors:
The Bristol Festival Community Group was set up in 2007 to launch a new community focused festival for the South West.

The volunteer led BFCG were granted full charity status in 2008 (Registered Charity no. 1124722) and key to the group's aims are public consultation, participation and involvement, making the Bristol Festival the only city wide publicly directed event. As well as organising the festival, the group runs a volunteer training programme including mentoring, skills swaps and work experience enabling members of the community to gain valuable experience in the events and music industry.

The Bristol Festival 2008 was a resounding success with a brilliant weekend enjoyed by roughly fourteen thousand people, winning Venue magazine’s Top Event of 2008. Over 2,000 artists and 300 volunteers were involved over the weekend of 20-21st September, with Brizzolfest taking place in the Amphitheatre in Bristol’s central Harbourside area, and Rave on Avon selling out 10 city centre nightclubs.

The Bristol Festival 2009 is planned for September 18th-20th, at Lloyds Amphitheatre, and 10 nightclubs, and will feature 7 outdoor stages and over 300 local bands, DJs, comedians, circus and cabaret performances. Tickets are just £5 a day in advance from www.thebristolfestival.org.
