(PHILADELPHIA, PA)  - The Scientist, magazine of the life sciences, was awarded “Magazine of the Year” in the 31st Annual Azbee Awards of Excellence presented by the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE).

In a rare feat, The Scientist has won this top honor for the 2nd consecutive year. ASBPE’s “Magazine of the Year” award recognizes magazines for excellence in writing, reporting and editing; editorial organization; layout and design; value to readers; and interaction with readers. This prestigious award is given to the best business-to-business publication across all industries.

In recognition of The Scientist’s achievement in the under-80,000 circulation category, ASBPE judges said "Eye opening for any reader. Technical material accessible, conversational, engaging, [and] thoughtful to audiences in and outside sciences. Great science writing by any standard.”

“It’s an incredible honor to pick up this award twice, especially considering how many magazines we’re competing against,” says Alison McCook, deputy editor. “It’s even sweeter the second time around.”

In addition, The Scientist’s July 2008 Life Sciences in Ireland: a New Celtic Culture Special Supplement was honored with the Bronze Azbee. It also received the 2009 Northeast Regional Bronze Azbee in the Feature Article category for “Twin Disorders” by Alison McCook. The article was published in the November 2008 issue.

The Scientist magazine is available through subscription and on select newsstands. The online magazine, including a 22 year magazine archive, latest news, interactive extras, community forums, and a careers site, can be found at www.the-scientist.com.
