In order to use the $8,000 first-time homebuyers tax credit, first-time homebuyers have to close on their house by November 30, 2009. Due to an overwhelming response to its first workshop held this May, The Homeownership Resource Center, a division of Family Services will present a First-Time Homebuyer Workshop on Saturday, August 29, from 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Wachovia Auditorium located at the College of Charleston.
The Homeownership Resource Center, a HUD approved counseling agency, will provide experienced and knowledgeable counselors who will assist workshop attendees with key steps of the home buying process -focusing on topics such as mortgage applications, fees, and budgeting, current market conditions, qualifying for the new $8,000 tax credit for first time homebuyers, buying HUD properties and foreclosures, home inspections and the closing. Homebuyers that qualify and purchase a home before December 1, 2009, could receive up to the full $8,000 tax credit, which they don't have to repay. The only repayment requirement is if the homeowner sells the home within three years after the purchase. In addition, the all time low interest rates for qualified buyers can make home ownership cost lower than an average rent in our area.
