Does Your Swimming Pool Have a Leak? Helpful Hints from Pipetek SL

The levels of your swimming pool will rise and fall naturally during the year through natural water evaporation. In the hot summer months you are likely to see even more of a drop in levels than usual.

But how do you know if your pool is losing water from another source and not merely from evaporation? Pipetek (www.pipetek.net), the go-to company for water leaks in Spain as well as all sorts of drainage issues, offer some helpful hints when it comes to ascertaining whether your pool has sprung a leak.

Water evaporation is of course a constant cause of decreasing water levels in a pool; however noticing that your levels have dropped is also the most common indication that your pool has a leak. Before you call in the experts in water leaks in Spain, such as Pipetek, to check on your prized swimming pool, you could save yourself time and money by following a simple “bucket test”. Managing Director of Pipetek, Jim Fraser, explains: “Pools lose a huge amount of water through evaporation every year - a standard 8x4m pool will lose 640 litres of water every day. If you can’t be sure whether your levels have dropped through this natural occurrence or in fact due to an underlying leak, the first thing you should do is carry out your own simple “bucket test”. Fill a bucket up to the brim with water from your pool, partly submerge it in the pool by placing it on the shallowest concrete steps and make a note of the subsequent level of the water in the pool by checking the level against the pool tiles. Then leave the bucket for three or four days, at which point you can compare the amount of water lost in the bucket to the amount of water lost in the pool. If the water in the pool goes down by the same amount as the water in the bucket, the water has evaporated – the difference in the surface area is irrelevant – but if it does not then it is likely that you do have a leak.”

Pipetek is committed to customer satisfaction which is why they are happy to provide people with helpful information such as this free of charge (as well as more tips on leaks as well as on damp in Spain which can be viewed on www.eyeonspain.com) in order for them to exhaust every opportunity to solve their own problems before having to call in the experts. Even when the expertise of Pipetek is called upon, the company is still saving their customers considerable amounts of money, however. An undetected leak can cost thousands of pounds in lost water and high water billing, without the help of the water leak detection service offered by Pipetek. Using state of the art ground and wall listening equipment and other detection service tracing devices, the Pipetek engineers can expedite leak detection, reducing the amount of water lost as well as damage to properties or pools caused by the leak. The Pipetek team is proud to be able to detect a water leak in minutes over a length of 100 metres!

Whether it is your pool levels which are causing you concern or your overly high water bills, when it comes to all sorts of water leaks in Spain, Pipetek are the company to call, if only for handy hints such as the bucket test! And don’t forget that Pipetek’s services extend to helping with a blocked drain in Spain and assessing properties with damp on the Costa del Sol.
