Eric Bakken saw the revolution coming last September, when Canon announced the 5d Mark II Camera, and several photographers generated short films with them. "I saw immediately that this was the equipment and the technology best suited to capturing the joy, the action, the emotions of a wedding. Before this camera, to get the same results, I would have had to use 35mm motion picture film, or HD video cameras costing tens of thousands of dollars. Now, I have in my camera bag, a discrete tool to capture the beauty and emotions of your wedding in a stunning short film.
The films are edited with an eye toward short and sweet. "No one wants to sit down and watch your 45 minute wedding video," said Bakken, "it's just too much except for the bride and groom. I focus on the moments of your wedding most important to record, and use professional sound and video equipment to accurately record your vows, the toasts, and other meaningful and memorable events at your wedding." As a still wedding and portrait photographer over the past 5 years, Bakken has significant experience looking for the beauty in details as well, and his films are careful to record the many details of your wedding day that are the result of many months of planning. "You'll see the the flowers, the venue, even the food. All of those are part of what makes your wedding day special."
Asked what he borrowed from other videographers and hollywood cinematographers when beginning to offer wedding cinema, Eric said, "frankly, I haven't seen too many wedding videos I liked. I have, however, watched hundreds of movies that I love, and often end up appreciating the camera work and the work of the Cinematographer in telling the story." Bakken's wedding films are notably simple, absent the cheesy effects and titles that are so prevalent in videos these days. They instead focus on the beauty and the joy at your wedding.
