If you've been putting off buying an Obama watch, don't take too much more time. Because time is the very thing the Obama Watch Company is running out of. The online memorabilia company that created more than a dozen Obama watches for the 2008 Presidential campaign plans to stop making the popular collectibles as of September 1, 2009.
"We've had a great run," said Jack Goldenberg, President, Obama Watches. "Our watches have been purchased in 47 states and 10 foreign countries, three of our watches are in the Smithsonian, and I personally gave five Obama watches to then-Senator Barack Obama at the request of the Democratic party. But in the long run, the watches will be worth more if we make less of them."
Obama Watches started out as a single watch Goldenberg wore to a party in December, 2007 as a one-man viral campaign to support candidate Obama. The next day Goldenberg got calls from five friends asking, "Where can I buy one of those Obama watches?" The company produced five different designs, and when they caught on, produced four more. There are now 15 watches in the Obama Collection and most styles have a SOLD OUT notice on obamawatches.com, the Obama Watches Web site.
