Innovators at Xtreme Xhibits by Skyline, Inc. (X2) aim to clean up the waste and rubbish left in the wake of tradeshows and events with the introduction of sustainable exhibiting alternatives. There is an old saying that “nothing endures but change.” The large force of change currently transforming business worldwide is environmental consciousness. This change has led X2 to pursue means of achieving greater sustainability in its product offerings. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, tradeshows and conventions represent the second most wasteful industry in the U.S., usurped only by building construction. In efforts to transform the events and tradeshow industry to one that is both environmentally and economically sustainable, X2 affords clients the choice of replacing harmful exhibiting material such as nylon-based fabrics, which do not decompose in landfills and are treated with toxic chemicals, with more ecologically friendly materials manufactured from 100% recycled soda bottles.
From more efficient LED lighting systems, to aesthetically pleasing recycled carpets and cabinetry, these new product offerings demonstrate X2s commitment to the idea that in order to effect meaningful change within the industry it is essential to continually re-envision their approach to doing business. In pushing for the adoption of more sustainable exhibiting practices, it would be disingenuous of X2 to not practice what they preach. Not only is X2 taking steps to make greener exhibiting more accessible and affordable to clients, they are also implementing in-house procedures to reduce their own carbon footprint. The implementation of a comprehensive recycling program and the addition of a new container-less water cooler system contribute to the reduction of company waste at their Austin headquarters. In fact, as of June 19, the City of Austin recognized X2 as a WasteSMART partner: one of only 19 companies in Austin to be recognized.
Rather than riding the “green wave” that is sure to sweep the wasteful tradeshow and events industry, X2 intends to be the force in generating this wave. Their example serves to educate Austin’s diverse business community to the fact that over the long term, green initiatives can not only lead to substantial financial and ecological savings, but can retain existing clients as well as generate new business. With expectations that their innovative change and direction will lead to a revolution within the tradeshow and events industry, X2 can show Austin businesses how to make their mark without leaving one.
