Pheron Launches schooX.com, a Social Network for Online Learning with 1000 Free Online Courses

July 29, 2009 - PRLog -- – schooX.com now provides more than 1000 free online courses under a Creative Commons License from several Universities and Institutions.
schooX.com is an online social network developed on the basis of Web 2.0 technologies with free online courses that aims to introduce students and amateurs to several courses. Intermediate and advanced level courses are also available for those students that seek material to elaborate on a subject.

Based on the idea of free knowledge exchange, courses are available to all members without restrictions. The content is updated weekly.

In schooX each course is considered to play the role of a unique community whose members are equipped with a repository (Course Center) filled with course support material like books, videos, ipapers, links, publications, files, notes. Only those enrolled to the course can add to and view the Course Center. One could consider therefore, the courses as advanced social bookmarking tools with an invaluable amount of knowledge attached to them. Additionally, each course has its own forum and chat room.

Identical to the Course Center is the Knowledge Box; a personal library where objects similar to those mentioned earlier can be stored. Members can send materials from their Knowledge Box to a Course Center and vice versa. These functionalities allow members to actively participate in building knowledge attained from courses or academic experience.

schooX members can also create communities (Groups) or forums on any subject and initiate a series of questions and answers on a specific topic.
As registration is for free, more than 1000 users have already registered to take advantage of the whole set of functionalities schooX offers.
With a determined mindset to create the most complete online learning platform available, the schooX team has already chosen the first set of functionalities available in the next version:
•   Skill Development Tools. Members will be provided with tools that improve essential career skills like creativity or problem-solving.
•   Virtual Classrooms that members can attend real-time.
•   Free Course Uploading. Each member will be able to upload their courses and make them available to the community.
