Brazilian Rainforest comes to Knowsley Safari Park

Knowsley Safari Park announces the arrival of a “min-rainforest” and the “mini beast” who inhabit the environment. The exhibit will be held within the Safari School building and starts August 1st.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Jul 29, 2009 -
Starting on 1st August, Save The Rainforest event will be held in the Safari School building all month. The room will be transformed into a mini rainforest and our visitors will have the opportunity to meet rainforest minibeasts at close range.

Knowsley Safari Park is working along with over 20 British zoos to raise funding to purchase a rainforest reserve in Brazil. The BIAZA (British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums) reserve will protect 1,803 acres of threatened Atlantic forest.  BIAZA are working with REGUA (Reserva  Ecológica de Guapiaçu) who’s primary objective is to protect he remaining rainforest and biodiversity from deforestation.

“The Atlantic Forest stretches from north-east Brazil south along the Brazilian Atlantic coastline just into coastal Uruguay, and inland into north-east Argentina and eastern Paraguay. Once covering an estimated 1,477,500 km2, centuries of deforestation has seen the Atlantic Forest become the second most threatened biome in the world after Madagascar. Today only 7% of the original forest area remains, an area of 100,000 km2, and only an estimated 2% is still primary forest. Despite the loss and habitat fragmentation, this ecoregion is still ranked in the top five of the world's biodiversity hotspots.” (information from http://www.regua.co.uk)

Our Rainforest Event also features competitions for our visitors to enjoy , trained staff to answer all your rainforest questions, badge making,  meet the Bug House keeper and a free children’s rainforest art zone.

We are happy to announce that the Co Op in Norris Green, Liverpool and Traidcraft have donated some Fair Trade Brazil nuts to help with our fund raising. Many thanks go to both organizations.

So, if you want to help save a real piece of rainforest come and visit the Rainforest Event this summer.
