About the 2009 BMW 3 Series
The 3 Series is BMW’s best-selling model; it was first introduced in 1975 in sedan, convertible, coupé, and sport wagon body styles with different engine and driveline choices. Over the years, the 3 Series has added cutting-edge technology and refinement, using innovation to keep ahead of the competition.
For 2009, BMW has revamped the 3 Series with fresh styling, on the front fascia, headlamps and tail lamps; improved interior ergonomics and for the first time in North America, a 335d clean twin-turbo diesel powerplant.
The 3-Series lineup includes 2-door convertibles and coupes, as well as 4-door wagons and sedans. Trim levels include: the 328, the 335, and M3. The 328i model gets rear-wheel drive or BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive; the 335i is available with rear or AWD.
The 3 Series come equipped with a 3.0-liter 6-cylinder, 230-hp engine. According to body style, some models are powered by a turbocharged 300-hp version of the 3.0-liter 6-cylinder. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard. BMW offers a powerful 3.0-liter twin-turbo diesel engine on the rear-drive 335d model, new for 2009. M3 models get a 414-hp 4.0-liter V8 engine, with a 7-speed automatic.
Average fuel economy is estimated at 23 mpg city/33 mpg highway.
All 3 Series models are equipped with a generous list of standard equipment, including power windows, power locks, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, cruise control, and automatic climate control. The convertibles feature a power-retractable hard top.
Safety features on all 2009 BMW 3 Series models include a dual-stage front-impact air bag Supplementary Restraint System (SRS), 2-stage driver and front passenger smart air bags, side air bags, front and rear seat Head Protection System (curtain air bags), anti-lock brakes (ABS) and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC).
