Flower Mound, TX – Genuitec, LLC, a founding and strategic member of the Eclipse Foundation, today announced the second milestone release (M2) of MobiOne; a new enterprise-class technology that enables development of mobile applications using Web standards. The M2 release includes the Palm Pre personality for mobile Web application development and enhanced iPhone 3.0 development with geolocation and HTML 5 offline application caching and storage.
“In mid-September we’re releasing version 1.0 of MobiOne as a full fledged mobile Web application builder, but ahead of that release we’re thrilled to introduce the Palm Pre as a supported device,” said Wayne Parrot, vice president of product development for Genuitec. “As the HTML 5 adoption curve continues to grow and enterprises are realizing its powerful potential, Genuitec is enabling developers to utilize iPhone 3.0 geolocation, local storage and offline data caching in their mobile applications – all of which used to be confined only to native apps.”
Developers will also enjoy new mobile Web site inspector tools that are integrated into MobiOne’s dashboard including debugging, local data and profile searching. Delivered with the simplicity of a single-click install, MobiOne is a technology that utilizes the power of the WebKit browser engine that drives some of today's most popular mobile and standard browsers like Apple's Safari, Google’s Chrome and others. With this browser engine standardized across many smart devices (including the iPhone, Palm Pre and G1/Android), developers can develop rich applications using the common Web languages of HTML 5, CSS3 and JavaScript.
This second milestone release of MobiOne is available for Palm Pre and iPhone development only, but will rapidly support other smart-phone devices with an aggressive delivery cycle. Targeted devices include Andriod/G1, Blackberry, and possibly Nokia and other smart devices being developed. MobiOne’s “TruView” technology delivers the behavior of these smartphone personalities through a customizable, pixel-perfect micro-browser.
“Companies that are taking a ‘wait and see’ attitude toward mobile development can quickly and inexpensively get their enterprise data online in a mobile specific environment using MobiOne,” said Maher Masri, president and CEO for Genuitec. “The power of the mobile Web is greater than that of native applications and app-type stores; in reality the Web itself is the store and it has the lowest barrier to entry.”
In support of the open source community working towards unifying mobile application development, Genuitec heads the “Blinki” project for mobile development at the Eclipse Foundation under the Pulsar working group. The goal is for Blinki to have an extensible mobile Web developer kit that will be used to build next-generation mobile Web applications. At this time, Genuitec has already released WebKit4SWT for free to the public with plans to contribute the majority of code to the Eclipse Foundation.
