Follow on Google News | Virginia Magician Uses Magic Tricks to Teach Children the Value of Kindness and Reduce BullyingBullying is a major problem for educators and parents throughout the country. Research shows that bullying increases the rate of teen suicide, school violence, and even obesity, Programs like ours hope to reduce bullying in elementary schools.
By: Bob Corson We capitalize on the awe that magicians have on young children to get our message across, says Corson “When I retired from teaching college, I wanted to give back to the community. I have always performed magic to illustrate points I was making while teaching at Temple University, The University of Phoenix and St Joseph’s College in Standish Maine. I did substitute teaching at grades Kindergarten through the 5th grade to better understand the children and the extent of the bullying problem. I have also researched the topic of bullying extensively to really understand the problem“, says Corson, “One of the real problems with bullying is that the majority of bullying instances that occur in schools never gets reported. In my program I stress to the children the importance of letting someone in higher authority know when they are being bullied. We also provide the children with valuable strategies for dealing with bullies. We also provide the schools with supplemental tools they can use to reduce bullying such as enrolling children in the Kindness Club, a school organization that helps promote kindness in the school.” says Corson “Bullying has been associated with the rise in school violence, teen suicide, childhood obesity, teen homicide and the increase in the school drop out rate. School administrators need to to “go out of the box” to develop proactive solutions to the bullying problem. We hope that programs like ours can be of some help“, says Corson For more information about The Magic of Kindness, call Bob Corson at 804 929-6463 or email akinderplace@ # # # A Non Profit organization committed to making the world a kinder place on kind act at a time.
