Preliminary Reads involve the reading, interpreting and preparation of a report of various radiological studies that the on-site local radiologist (e.g. US, Canada, UK, etc.) can use to prepare the official final diagnostic report.  The offshore radiologist provides a preliminary report, which is neither final nor binding, this helps increase productivity of the local on-site radiologists. To ensure quality we encourage performing a double read on each exam and generating a more robust report for the local radiologist. Each study is reviewed independently by two experienced offshore radiologists. Both their preread reports and key images appear in the designated local radiologist’s RIS/PACS-based work queue. The local radiologist reviews the two individual preread reports, and performs a complete, official final read and issues a signed report to the referring physician.
