InTheRooms.com is an online recovery community that focuses on overcoming addiction through personal interaction. In The Rooms advocates the sharing of experiences, strengths, and hopes in order that recovering addicts can receive the support necessary to continue on the difficult road of recuperation. InTheRooms.com features a number of community-minded features, such as an up-to-date list of fellowships, forums, groups, and chat rooms, which members can visit, learn about, and join. InTheRooms.com also features a media library with an extensive collection of recorded professional speakers that can be browsed by topic, as well as a collection of daily meditations from a variety of published books and fellowships. In addition, InTheRooms.com publishes a weekly newsletter highlighting activities across the globe sponsored by 12-step program fellowships and fellowship members. To join InTheRooms.com, a username must be selected and a short profile must be completed; after successful login, new members are given the opportunity to invite acquaintances to become members of the community, as well as to search and make connections with other fellow members. New members are also able to develop his/her personal profile, search for local InTheRooms members, search for and join 12-step fellowship programs at In The Rooms Meetings Database, and become involved in the recovery of fellow members. The site shares a number of features with other popular online communities, such as customizable user accounts complete with profiles that allow the upload of photo albums and the creation of community groups; profiles also include email accounts and chat, allowing members to communicate freely and easily.
Launched in October of 2008, InTheRooms.com has since collected thousands of members from across the globe. Membership is open to any, including those on the road to recovery, family members and friends of recovering addicts, and those who have overcome addiction and wish to provide support. Members are given the opportunity to meet other InTheRooms.com users, become active in fellowships, forums and groups, and further develop the In The Rooms community.
