Setooz.com which has recently launched a beta version of it's local language web search engine, has announced their support for Czech and Slovakian languages. The search engine now supports 23 languages in total and says it plans to add more soon. Setooz aims to become the world's local language search engine and has begun with a few pilot languages.
The search engine is capable of automatically learning about the local language and providing better quality search results. The company said, the ability to handle morphological variations of query words is their first step towards improving the search quality and they soon plan to add more features.
For example, in the case of Czech, a search query such as "festivalu" would lose out on many documents if a search engine just looks for that string. Setooz on the other is able to understand that "fest", "festival", "festivity", "festivaly" etc. are different variations of the query "festivalu" and is able to retrieve the relevant documents. Similarly Slovakian queries can also be morphologically complex to process. Handling such language complexities with language aware algorithms helps Setooz retrieve better results.
Each language search engine is hosted using a different host name based on the 2-letter ISO language code. For example, the beta version of Setooz Czech can be accessed at http://cs.setooz.com and Setooz Slovakian can be acessed at http://sk.setooz.com .
Apart from these languages some of the other languages supported are Hungarian, Polish, Bulgarian, Greek and Turkish.
