PRLog (Press Release) - Jul 25, 2009 -
World Links Arab Region (WLAR) signed on Monday the 20th of July a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Education in Yemen and Al Awn Foundation for Development regarding the joint two-year World Links Teachers’ Professional Development (TPD) Program in Yemen for 2009-2011, to train 1200 teachers and reach about 200,000 students, in the Capital Secretariat, Aden and Hadhramout.

The signing of the MoU was attended by Yemen Education Minister Abdul-Salam Al-Jawfi, Executive Director of Al Awn Foundation Dr. Adel Bahameed and WLAR Chief Executive Officer Reem Bsaiso.

The MoU will be co-financed by Al-Awn Foundation at $430,000 and World Links Arab Region at $120,000, with in kind contribution from the Ministry.

The program trains teachers to effectively use Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in their classrooms with their students, within interactive classroom dynamics. The teachers and their students, through practical applications,  gain new skills, such as critical thinking, problem solve, employing research techniques,  working collaboratively within groups and gaining advanced communications skills, thus effectively contributing towards attaining self and life-long learning skills within future Arab Knowledge Economies.

Staffed with experts in educational technology and entrepreneurship training, WLAR has so far trained more than 10,000 teachers and educators in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Palestine and Yemen, reaching over 2 million Arab students, and with its proven success, is expanding the program to include more Arab countries in the coming few years.

The signing of the MOU shows the common commitment of the Yemeni Ministry of Education, Al Awn Foundation for Development and World Links Arab Region to equip teachers and students with the necessary technology skills needed for the future, while enhancing employment opportunities and reducing the gap between educational outcome and market needs.
