More than 150 events planned nationwide for SteelDay

(Chicago, IL) – Steel facility and jobsite tours, educational seminars, and presentations on state-of-the-art industry technologies and products will be part of more than 150 free events scheduled in 49 states for SteelDay on September 18. Hosted by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), SteelDay is a national networking event for members of the design community and construction industry.

SteelDay is a fabulous opportunity for the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) community, students, universities, and the general public to get valuable hands-on learning experience and see first hand how steel is produced. To illustrate what each event has in store, AISC has updated its SteelDay web at www.SteelDay.org to include details for most locations.

Participants will discover how the structural steel industry remains on the forefront of technology with its advanced use of Building Information Technology (BIM) and cutting edge machinery; gain knowledge about structural steel's sustainability, availability, speed, and efficiency; and understand how the structural steel industry provides innovative design and construction solutions for a variety of projects. Many events will also offer continuing education credits through registration with the American Institute of Architects (AIA).

"By attending a SteelDay event, architects, engineers, students, and others will acquire a greater appreciation for the assumed safety, beauty, and utility of the many structures they pass over or pass by during their days activities," commented Dennis McCartney, president of B&B Welding, Inc., host of a SteelDay fabricator tour in Baltimore, MD.

AISC will host a special SteelDay event in Chicago's Millenium Park; surrounded by some of Chicago's famous buildings, guests will be able to listen to a presentation about structural steel's sustainable contribution to Chicago's architecture and economy before exploring several education stations. AISC staff will also be available on site for questions and discussion. For more information, please visit www.steelday.org/chicago.
