BUY LOCAL SAVE LOCAL

Halifax Mayor endorses “BUY LOCAL SAVE  LOCAL”  private marketing initiative for Nova Scotia.

The Mayor of Halifax, Peter Kelly, released a letter earlier this week, endorsing a new private marketing initiative that was started earlier this year in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

“As Mayor of the Halifax Regional Municipality, I am writing to confirm my endorsement of the "BUY LOCAL SAVE LOCAL" initiative in support of local business in our region….This strategy will strengthen local, urban and rural communities and keep our economy thriving here in Nova Scotia.  In the best interest of everyone I encourage you to support locally owned and operated businesses.”, said Mayor Kelly in the letter.

Partnering with the WEDGE Card in London England (http://www.wedgecard.co.uk/) and the UNIK card in Oslo, Norway (http://unikoslo.no/), BUY LOCAL SAVE LOCAL (www.buylocalsavelocal.com) in Halifax, Nova Scotia was officially launched in April of 2009 by founder Thomas Nolte.

“There is a growing need to strengthen the local economy, and to keep people, jobs and investments in our local area.  BUY LOCAL SAVE LOCAL seeks to encourage everyone to participate in strengthening their local community,” says Nolte.

Nolte, a business owner in the Halifax Area, is a former German Air Force pilot who emigrated from Germany 3 years ago. He sees BUY LOCAL SAVE LOCAL as a way of “saying thanks” to the people of Nova Scotia who have helped him, his wife and 2 children, move into the area.

“My family and I are just amazed at how the people of Nova Scotia have welcomed us into their hearts and homes over the last three years…it is truly a testament to the incredible hospitality  of the people in Atlantic Canada…” says Nolte.

BUY LOCAL SAVE LOCAL is a new way to receive discounts and special offers from local shops and independent businesses. BUY LOCAL SAVE LOCAL aims to re-vitalize local communities by offering a reward to customers choosing to shop locally. BUY LOCAL SAVE LOCAL encourages all residents and visitors to take better care of our beautiful nature in Nova Scotia - by supporting locally owned and operated businesses, driving less and reducing our carbon-footprint in this way.

Consumers can purchase the discount card from participating local businesses, or directly from BUY LOCAL SAVE LOCAL, by visiting the website www.buylocalsavelocal.com and join as a member.  Upon presenting their cards to participating businesses, they will receive various discounts and special offers.

BUY LOCAL SAVE LOCAL has started as a province wide movement in Nova Scotia, and aims to grow into other provinces all across Canada, bringing people together and offering even more benefits to our members when travelling.

BUY LOCAL SAVE LOCAL was designed by Thomas Nolte to “use the power of buying local to strengthen local economies and to improve our communities by working cooperatively to make them a better place to live, work and play.”
