JP’s RumBar Celebrates One Year Anniversary With Free Jambalaya

The New Orleans themed bar and restaurant is now one of the top destinations for locals and tourists alike.

July 23, 2009 - PRLog -- The sign welcoming guests claims the ‘Best Mojito in town’, which is saying something in this expat and tourist haven.  Antigua, Guatemala, is one of the top destinations in the world and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors a year.  Restaurants and bars occupy almost every street in town and competition is fierce, especially with a slowing economy and dwindling tourists.

JP’s RumBar is a New Orleans-themed bar and restaurant and is celebrating its first anniversary today.  The owner, Jean Paul Lagarde, came here two and a half years ago to perfect his Spanish, and ended up falling in love with the town.  He says the unique culture and cuisine back home inspired him to open up something different, “This town has a lot of great restaurants, but I wanted something with character, something that would appeal both to travelers and locals alike, with great original music, good rum, and high-quality, New Orleans cuisine”.

The restaurant has been a big hit.  Approximately 40% of the customers are Guatemalans, a huge accomplishment in a town dotted with restaurants and bars.  The remainder of the clientele are a mix of local expats, other business owners, and tourists.  A recent evening saw the RumBar play host to an eclectic group of bloggers, including local bloggers and expats.  Mr. Lagarde, who locals know as ‘Juan Pablo’ and friends call ‘JP’, says, “A startup is difficult in any environment, but in a third world during an economic crisis, we’re blessed to have done so well”.

RumBar is celebrating with free Jambalaya-the signature item-and 15Q beer.  Readers who are interested can get more information by visiting the company’s website, RumBarAntigua.com
