Porsches 2 Oxford Shatters Pre-Registration Record

Fifth Anniversary Event Secures 448 Pre-Registered Cars For Annual Casual Porsche Party to Benefit the ACS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Jul 23, 2009 – With the Pre-Registration deadline of Wednesday July 22nd in the proverbial rear-view mirror, organizers for Porsches 2 Oxford announced an event-record 448 cars pre-registered for the Saturday July 25th event.  That number eclipses the previous record set last year when 376 Porsches registered prior to the event – a staggering 20% increase for one of the nation’s most anticipated Porsche weekends. The count also bests last year’s overall attendance record of 396 Porsches. With a projected turnout of nearly 500 cars, organizers are thrilled to entertain so many guests while raising money and awareness for the American Cancer Society.

“At a time when people are tightening budgets and shaking couch cushions for loose change, P2O continues to contradict conventional wisdom in both participation and charitable giving,” said Porsches 2 Oxford Media & Publicity Director Chris Rieman. “Porsche owners come from all walks of life and are not immune to these economic forces, but this is an event they choose to make room for – perhaps at the expense of others on their car show calendar. To pre-register 448 cars from 17 states and Canada, our goal of an unprecedented 500 Porsches parked on the uptown streets of Oxford is a tremendous feather in the cap for automotive lovers in the Tri-State.”

Dubbed “a casual Porsche party”, P2O organizers host attendees in the rural college town of uptown Oxford, Ohio. Located 30 miles north of Cincinnati along the Ohio-Indiana border, the event kicks off on Friday July 24th with friendly gatherings at local watering holes, showcases the vast number of Porsches in uptown Oxford all day Saturday, and concludes on Sunday with a road rally. The Saturday event is free to the public. The Mid-Ohio Region Porsche Club of America serves as host.

Although the casual fun alongside expensive German sports cars headlines the event, P2O brings Porsche enthusiasts together to raise money and awareness for the American Cancer Society. The event’s underlying charity for the past two years, the ACS has a special connection that organizers draw inspiration from.

“MaryLynn Roe co-founded the event in Michigan in 2003 and saw the move to Oxford in 2005, but her courageous battle with cancer was her greatest legacy,” Rieman said. “She passed away from cancer in 2006 but her spirit and vision remain a central rallying point for this event.  The ACS is our way of paying it forward.”

Organizers started a new tradition in 2009 to do just that, selling prime parking spots for $100 each to benefit the local chapter of the ACS.  All 40 spaces were sold in the first seven days of registration.  Five dollars from general registration fees also benefit the charity while 50/50 drawings throughout the afternoon complete the fundraising.

“We’re hoping to raise $10,000 when it’s all said and done,” Rieman said.  “There are many terrific automotive celebrations in this part of the country, but I’m not sure other events display $15-20 million in world-class cars from the same manufacturer in one location and raise a lot of money doing it.”

Porsches 2 Oxford began as Porsches 2 Pinckney (MI) in 2003 as 85 cars took part in the first-year event. The event moved to Oxford in 2005 and entertained a modest 140 cars. Attendance increased to 225 cars in 2006 and 255 cars in 2007.  A record 396 Porsches made their way to Oxford on July 26, 2008 for the fourth annual event. The college town with brick-lined streets and quaint storefronts hosted attendees from 17 states and three Canadian provinces.
