Raising Green on the Green to Bring Financial Literacy Education to New Jersey Youth
Morristown, New Jersey – Every organization is making concessions and cutbacks. Non-profits across the country are feeling the pain, especially when it comes to their golf events, with many reporting a financial loss compared to the prior year. Junior Achievement of NJ (JANJ) decided they were not about to become the next victim of this economy. So, in the spirit of these challenging economic times, JANJ has made the tough decision to merge one of its longstanding, high-end golf events with their other longstanding, but more modest event, so everyone can save but still invest in the cause. Supporters and sponsors alike will receive eco-friendly marketing of this event online only.
This newly combined golf event is now called Junior Achievement of NJ’s Annual Charity Golf Outing and will be held on Monday, September 14th at Morris County Golf Club, 36 Punch Bowl Road, Morristown, NJ. Each golfer will play his/her own ball throughout the day. The outing will include an outdoor BBQ lunch overlooking Morris County’s lush, 18-hole golf course; a casual cocktail reception; a line-up of quality auction items to bid on; and the very challenging and exciting Putting Contest for a finale. Many winners will leave the event with prizes awarded during the cocktail reception.
The event’s proceeds will help sustain JA’s financial literacy-based programs that educate more than 31,000 of New Jersey’s youth each year, inspiring and motivating them to be career and workforce ready. Aside from JA after-school programs, for the most part, students are learning from volunteer role models from their local communities and corporations across the state. The mentors are teaming up and going directly into the classroom to share JA’s activity-based, hands-on programs that teach the kids about credit, taxes, and managing checking and savings accounts, as well as entrepreneurship and the concept of jobs vs. careers. Students are learning these important lessons through JA as early as kindergarten.
“At a time when the need for financial literacy education has never been more necessary or widespread, the Junior Achievement Annual Charity Golf Outing provides its supporters a day of networking and a time to reflect on the importance of education, all during a day of golf.” said event chair, Peter Wallburg, of BNY Wealth Management, who is also the vice chairman of JANJ’s North District Board of Directors.
Though tough times are still ahead, a number of JANJ business education partners have decided to “hang in there” and sponsor this special event, and they include: Accenture, ATC, BNY Mellon Wealth Management, Crowe Horwath, Deloitte and Touche, LLP, HSBC Insurance and Smallwood Financial. The foursome participation fee is $2,000 with the individual golfer fee just $475 per person. Registration, sponsorship and in-kind donations are welcomed and can be done by logging onto www.janj.org or by contacting the event director, Amy Boroff. (See contact information above.)
