It was an ongoing joke to newlyweds Kuoch and Gayheart, one at which both laughed: “my husband the cheap bastard.” Gayheart would shake her head at Kuoch’s means of saving a few cents; Kuoch couldn’t understand why his wife would spend more than she had to. It was as much a commentary on the sexes as it was on their respective upbringings.
