July 21, 2009 - PRLog -- The Hummingbird Collection, a brand published by Retired Hipster, Inc., based in San Francisco, CA, releases a set of eight bound journals (retail $14.95). Created and designed by Amy Gayheart, founder and Creative Director of Gayheart Design and Co-Founder of Retired Hipster, Inc. The wood-free paper collection is a set of eight inspirational journals full of simple motivational thoughts and phrases such as: Play Like There’s No Tomorrow, Dance Like You’ve Never Danced Before, Dream for Today and Be the Change.

The journal collection, each rich with saturated color symbolizing the seasons, elements, moods, and emotions of the individual user, are a first in a series of books, paper products, and gifts designed by Hummingbird Studio. The studio’s journals are a hub of personal experimentation and consciousness whose natural origins are as multi-tiered as the pages themselves.

“They all have a life force, a presence to them to enjoy and use as a tool to grow,” Gayheart says of the journals. Be it cut paper, glue, paint, cast light, taped-up objects or otherwise, Gayheart’s handmade, organic process marks a place of total creation. “Here, nothing is passive about the humming,” Gayheart adds. “It’s a constant flow.”

Gayheart, having written and drawn in journals as a little girl, is a contradiction in terms.  She calls herself simple and complex all at the same time, a self-admitted “born” artist but one not satisfied with a single categorization. “The only title on my business card is this,” she says, without a trace of irony: “‘Creative director, designer, artist, poet, yoga teacher, friend, sister, and listener.’” It’s precisely this hybrid that gives Gayheart her visual edge.

With ten years of fashioning visually rich marketing materials, branding, websites and product design for global brands such as Mercedes-Benz and Coca-Cola. Gayheart’s skills run the creative gamut. She’s an idea gal with a “big picture” idealism and an intimate, organic artistry. A San Francisco transplant by way of Santa Monica, Atlanta, and earlier, Florida, she honed an eye for aesthetics and a free spirit that colors outside the lines. Her anticipated Hummingbird Collection encapsulates a synergy of form and function, of whimsy that works.
