Greenline Paper's Green Office Certification is given after the company meets criteria evaluating both the facilities of the company and their office practices. Areas such as specifically purchasing recycled office paper and supplies, using Energy Star equipment, having an energy efficient location, and even the type of cleaners being used are researched. Schlicher was surprised at how much LiquidWholeFood.com's operation met the steep criteria.
"So many people think it's expensive to 'go green.' What people don't realize is that sometimes it's much easier on the bottom line. For instance, every time someone prints a draft copy of correspondence or something, if the flip side is blank we put it in a bin and then reuse that paper in the printer. That's like getting double the amount of paper from a ream. If you calculate how much a box of paper costs and multiply it by two, it's like money in the bank."
LiquidWholeFood.com re-evaluated how "green" their company was after learning that Life Force International had recently replaced the existing lighting system in their shipping facility with sensor-activated 6 lamp T8 high-bay fixtures. This translated to a savings of 133,000 Kwh--enough to power at least 12 houses for a whole year.
