Ikebana Arrangement
Ikebana Arrangement
PRLog (Press Release) - Jul 20, 2009 -
There are two kinds of floral designs. One is based on typical Japanese floral art called "Ikebana". And the other one is what is usually called "Flower Arrangement". The latter is based on flower arranging skills of European or American style contemporary way of designs.
When it comes to doing business of floral designs such as wedding floral decoration or funeral flower arrangement or running a floral shop in Europe or USA, the floral designs used for such business are not based on Ikebana but contemporary floral designs popular in Europe and America. To distinguish above two kinds of floral designs, we want to call here "Ikebana" and "Contemporary Floral Designs". Ikebana is pretty profound floral art which requires very delicate and highly trained skills. For making Ikebana arrangement, we usually use what is called "Kenzan" which is a kind of needlepoint holder to hold flowers and their stems. Kenzan is made of metal and it is heavy enough to hold flower stems and is not disposable. On the other hand, Contemporary Floral Designs (popular in Europe and American) usually use what is called "Oasis" which is a kind of chemical foam into which flower stems are inserted for holding. Unlike Kenzan used for Ikebana, oasis is disposable and not very difficult to use it when arranging flowers. Another big difference between above two kinds of floral designs is of course the history behind both floral cultures. Simply speaking, contemporary floral design is recommended for beginners mainly because it is not so difficult to make arrangement. And this design can be used for doing business mainly in Europe and America. If you are keenly interested in learning part of Japanese traditional art, Ikebana is recommended for you to learn although the skills used for this art are usually not used for wedding or funeral floral decoration in Europe and the USA. In spite of above mentioned difficult skills and also limited application in Ikebana Arts, some people are keenly interested in learning Ikebana Arrangement. In order to support such people, California Flower Art Academy offers classes, lessons and courses featuring Ikebana Arrangement. If you are interested in learning Ikebana Arts, we are more than happy to help you acquire practical skills by way of hands on training of person to person instruction (close to semi private lesson).
