The Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce has raised over $250,000 since the inception of its annual Taste of Southern Ocean Hunger Relief Dinner fifteen years ago. The funds have been dedicated to supporting seven food banks located with the region. This year, Atantic City Electric has selected the chamber's Southern Ocean Community Foundation to join The Food Bank of South Jersey and the Southern Branch of Community Food Bank of NJ to benefit from the money raised in the upcoming golf classic.
The day will begin with registration, golf clinic, driving range and opening ceremony, at 11 am a shotgun start with box lunch on carts and will wind down with 4pm cocktail reception, silent auction and awards. The committee is seeking sponsorships on many levels, golf foursomes and auction gifts to help increase funds that will directly support local hunger relief. With food pantires at an all time low, this support will be well received by the food banks which are located in Lacey Township, Waretown, Manahawkin, Barnegat, Tuckerton and Long Beach Island.
