Although the industry was suffering at the beginning of the year, new evidence shows that people are getting plastic surgery again, despite the poor economy. Dr. Vipul Dev, a plastic surgeon in Bakerdfield, California says that he has noticed an upswing in the number of patients in the area when compared to late last year.
Dr. Dev says there are multiple reasons that people in Bakersfield might be returning to plastic surgery. One reason is that cosmetic surgeons are recognizing people's tight budgets and offering discounts and incentives to potential patients. Another reason for the upturn might be that the baby boomer generation is aging, and seeking ways to look and feel younger. In addition to this, Dr. Vipul Dev comments that his patients seem to have a sense that the economy's downward fall has slowed, making elective purchases and procedures seem more feasible.
Recent reports indicate that demand for plastic surgery should grow steadily 8.4% every year through 2012. Dr. Dev adds that less expensive, less invasive procedures, like Botox, are more popular now, and should grow at an even higher rate.
