PRLog (Press Release) - Jul 20, 2009 -
For any site being optimized for search engines, the keywords play a significant role in helping the sites to rank well in SERP’s. Hence it is important to understand the use of adding keywords while you optimize a web page. It is very clear that there should be no over-stuffing of keywords in a web page. Repeating of keywords too often in a page, can artificially boost your search engine rankings as well as cause attempt to spamming. Thus the need of keyword density states that how many times certain words appear within the total body of the web page. In other words, keyword density is the percentage of frequency of your keywords to the text in the rest of your webpage.

The search engine applies this information to determine a websites theme, and which keywords the site is relevant for. Achieving a perfect keyword density helps in higher search engine rankings and thus your most essential keywords are what will lead potential customers to your web pages. Make a note that your content incorporates the keywords efficiently otherwise your site will not get rated well and it probably will not get chosen by search engines.

The accepted standard for a keyword density is between 3% and 5%, to get recognized by the search engines and you should never exceed it. This is simply not true as you cannot hope to rank for a keyword or key-phrase if it does not appear anywhere on your site. Make sure that you target one keyword per page to get better rankings. The basic principle is that the importance of any given word increases proportionally to the number of times it appears in a document or webpage; however this is counterbalanced by the number of times the word appears in the body of documents or website.

Google, the most popular search engine examine the entire link structure of the web and determine which pages are most important. They, then conduct hypertext-matching analysis to determine which pages are relevant to the specific search being conducted. By combining overall importance and query-specific relevance, Google put the most relevant and reliable results first. There are more than 200 signals including the Page Rank algorithm through which Google determines its end results.

Thus, for Google or any other search engine, it is very important to provide information which a reader is searching for. To analyze how many times a keyword is repeated in a web page, you can calculate the keyword density and thus optimize your page accordingly. Although you can manually calculate the keyword density of a particular web page, but it is quite a time consuming task. Hence it is better to opt for keyword density software that can quickly show you the results without wasting much of your valuable time.
