Follow on Google News | Quirky novel climbs up Amazon's Kindle charts after Jackson's deathThe media exposure seen in 2009 when celebrities die - like Michael Jackson - was exactly what D.L. Shiloh was thinking of when he wrote this quirky novel. After Michael Jackson's death, Shiloh saw a 150,000 leap up the Amazon.com charts.
But then the 1990's, with the O.J. Simpson "Trial of the Century" and the death of Princess Diana happened. It made D.L. Shiloh rethink the book. "The natural course is for things to ramp up," Shiloh said. "I saw where it was going and the book had to mirror what was happening with the media and society's strong interest in celebrity. I also saw how easy it was for people to get famous for something that wasn't related to their talent." While the satire has a serious edge (the subjects of unemployment, divorce, alcoholism, near death experiences, anorexia, and emotional abuse fill its pages), "Pookoo" has humor, too. The cover reveals a mascot named Lenny the Lobster. Was Shiloh trying to throw readers off? "I think the same old story floods our bookshelves and we (authors) owe it to readers for something that entertains and surprises readers," Shiloh added. Homefield Multimedia's Mike Pace had this to say. "You're going to laugh, think and get your heartstrings pulled." Just like the story, this quirky novel has seen a resurgence on the Amazon charts, gaining over 150,000 slots in the last few weeks. Currently it is No. 10 on the Kindle chart for Track and Field books. "Pookoo" is available at Amazon.com.
