The summer time is usually relaxing due to picnics, trips to the beach and beautiful weather. However, for some people, dealing with a sweat rash or heat rash
makes the extra humidity a negativity and full of stress.

According to Cohen, a licensed social worker in South Florida and founder of website itchyskinrash.net, many clients complain about rashes during the summer and spend a lot of time on the internet trying to identify it properly. She has a found that a number have found out that their red rash is a heat rash due to their body trapping
moisture.

Cohen stated, "Many people like to wear spandex and nylon during the summer months, but for some people this encourages or aggravates an existing heat rash."  Cohen sees many people who are self-conscious and hesitant to particpate in summer activities for fear or either having their prickly heat rash noticed or worsening the skin condition.

Cohen reports that people often put themselves back into the same conditions that created the problem initially. For instance, rather than exercise early in the morning or after the sun sets, people will continue to exercise during the heat of the day. Changing our routines is difficult and no one likes to alter behavior, especially because summer is supposed to be a time when troubles are lighter.

She advises to wear cotton clothing as much as possible, get out of swimsuits and workout clothing as soon as possible so skin doesn't keep sweat trapped in nylon and to always cool the body off using a shower after heating it up. Effective home remedies include using corn starch on the body to absorb moisture, applying aloe vera gel to the area, taking oatmeal baths in cool water and using creams with zinc oxide. Cool compresses are helpful to relieve the itchiness and inflammation. Putting ice cubes in a ziplock bag and wrapping in a towel is a convenient way to cool the areas inflicted
by prickly heat rashes. Tips are included at:

Cohen also advises that people shouldn't assume that their rash is a sweat rash or prickly heat rash since there are other common skin rashes during the summer including atopic eczema, sun rashes, hives and reactions to medications. She suggests people read the information leaflets that accompany medications to see if there may be a reaction to it from being exposed to the sun.

Because summer is looked forward to during the whole year and a symbol of carefree living, Cohen notices that there is a huge disappointment when obstacles appear that cut into one's enjoyment during this season. She advises clients to observe how their bodies react to the sun, exercise and vigorous activity in the summer and if rashes or other reactions occur to use moderation. Don't just go with the crowd and peer pressure but do what is best for your body during the hot months of the year.
