The Town of LaSalle ON has announced the continued development of the Vollmer Culture & Recreation Complex with the addition of a ball diamond facility, complete with site amenities and assets to support 10 baseball/softball fields. HydroSense Irrigation Design & Consulting Inc. has been retained, once again, to expand on the decoder- and climatologically -based central control irrigation system designed and specified for the existing 26 soccer fields.
“Our goal in successfully designing the first phase was to establish a solid foundation and allow for the seamless expansion of the system for this 189 acre recreation site,” says Tony Serwatuk, founding Principal of HydroSense. “We have worked closely with Town officials to ensure the irrigation system does not pose a strain on the municipal water infrastructure. The system’s primary water source is a 5 acre storm water retention pond fed by field drainage, the Complex’s roof area which has been engineered to capture and route rainwater to the pond, and neighbouring roads storm sewers.” The pond is to be expanded to more than double its capacity during the next phase of construction providing ample on-site storage of irrigation water. The development of the ball diamond facility will enable the Town to offer the numerous ball clubs in the region a state of the art facility for the novice to semi pro level teams to hold tournaments and events.
The irrigation system features an advanced central control system which will allow the operator to get real time, 24/7 monitoring of all vital information as it pertains to the operating conditions of the irrigation system. An on-site weather station will provide the climatological data required by the central computer to make ET calculations and subsequent adjustments to the irrigation schedule. Flow management and monitoring will give the operator “up to the gallon” reporting on water consumption providing accurate records and management, as well as alerting the operator of any erroneous flow issues such as an over-flow or under-flow condition.
